Day 7′s challenge is to create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something.
Title: The Book
Fandom: Once Upon a Time, Myst
Characters: Belle, Rumplestiltskin
Summary: Belle finds a strange book in the library.
Belle had never seen such a magnificent library in her life. The library in her father’s castle would have filled just one column of shelves in Rumplestiltskin’s library. She walked along the stacks, occasionally reaching out to brush the dust away to read an embossed title. She had no idea where to even begin.
A book caught her eye, rich brown leather that stuck out from its neighbors. There was no title—nor was there any dust—and when Belle reached out to touch it, there was…it was like electricity in the air around it. Magic?
Belle’s curiosity got the better of her. She pulled the book from the shelf and opened it to the center pages. The alphabet was completely unknown to her, but quite fascinating: beautiful, sweeping calligraphy interspersed with symbols in squares. Perhaps there was a translation dictionary in the library? She flipped to the front page to find some indication of the name of the language, perhaps a handwritten note or dedication…
She gasped. There was no writing on the page, only a dark rectangle that blurred and swam before her eyes. It resolved into a picture, a lonely island with a few small buildings, a sunken ship at its dock and an enormous tree. And it was moving. The picture appeared to be a window to a real place.
She reached out to touch the moving picture, but a scaly green hand grabbed hers in an iron grip. Belle shrieked in surprise and dropped the book.
“Careful, my dear,” Rumplestiltskin said. He let go of her hand and crouched down to pick up the book. “Some books can be dangerous.”
“How is that book dangerous?” Belle asked.
Rumplestiltskin turned to leave, the book still in his hand. “Its ending has not yet been written.”
